how to open an Office 2007 document with an earlier version

If you try to open a document that was made with a Microsoft Office 2007 program with an earlier version of Office it wont let you.
The solution is to download and install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats.
The document should now work.
