Right-click the network connection, and then click Properties.
Click Install.
Click Protocol, and then click Add.Click Have Disk.
Type C:\Windows\inf, and then click OK.
On the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
If Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) does not appear, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Search.
In the Search Companion pane, click More advanced options.
Click to select the following three check boxes:
Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders
In the All or part of the file name box, type nettcpip.inf, and then click Search.
In the results pane, right-click Nettcpip.inf, and then click Install.
Restart the computer.

What if you can't find that file?
On the have disk section make sure you select Microsoft as the provider and if you can´t find nettcpip.inf then insert your windows CD and go to command prompt and type expand d:\i386\nettcpip.in_ c:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf where d: is your CD ROM drive.
Then try to install the protocol again.
Stumbled onto this page looking for how to re-install the IP drive/address on my Toshiba Laptop.
I agree with one of the comments..Pictures would have help tremendously.
Found four listing of the nettcpip.inf, but when I right clicked or whatever it was I could not find what I needed for the next step.
So yes pictures would have been great.
Thanks for the replies and I'm glad it has helped so many of you.
I have added some pictures to help users out.
By the way the pictures are from my Vista machine since I don't have acces to a windows XP machine at this time.
The procedure is the same.
