In Windows XP while trying to open windows Live Messenger 2009 or earlier you will get an error saying that Windows Live Messenger is not Responding and that it has to be closed.
After reading the steps listed on the Windows Live support page:

The option that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe flash player and Adobe shockwave player and then reinstall them.
You can do this by going to the Control Panel ,Add/Remove programs and uninstall them from there.
Or you can use the uninstall tool:

Then install the latest version from Adobe.com and Messenger should work.
Help a computer guy if a solution has helped you.

I had the same problem but it has already been fixed. Good thing I came across your blog. This helped.
One issue say for instance, is sign-in issues with Windows Live Messenger can be triggered by a wide array of probable causes. It might be due to as simple as an incorrect date and time settings on your computer, or as complicated as problems with your Internet connection.
